Action Short Description
The Hellenic Book Club, among the general efforts to promote education and culture, is offering itself to contribute to the support of the flooded schools of Thessalía.
We investigate the needs of the lending libraries, and we start the action with the following schools:
Magnisia Prefecture: 2nd Primary school of Agria, 2.000e
Trikala Prefecture: 1st Primary school of Farkadona, 2.500e
4th GEL of Trikala, 2.500e
Karditsa Prefecture: 2nd Primary school of Palama, 2.500e
Larisa Prefecture: 1st Primary school of Giannouli, 2.500e
And we continue to investigate more of them ....
Each library will include:
Selected quality books of high readability*, according to the pupils’ needs, number and age as well as those of the teachers.
Inspiring materials for the lending libraries. Decorative themes. The operational system of the lending library encourages the pupils’ self-motivation.
Bookshelves where needed.
*High readability is achieved through the innovative program of ELBI ‘Selection of books’ which is a unique system for the evaluation of books, from readers to readers. Books are categorized according to the age of the reader and the kind of book. There are also four quality criteria regarding the content, the art of writing, the edition and illustration. Working systematically on the selection of books, ELBI has an extensive list of selected books which results to pointing out the potential of quality books adapted to the needs of each institution. These needs are recorded in the program ‘Search for the creation of lending libraries in schools’ and thus the attitudes and specialties of each institution are traced, and the material adapted to the needs of each targeted group is sent. Lists of books, already being in the institution, are compiled in relation to the age and the specialties of the targeted groups. Furthermore, there is a study of the material needed for the bookshelves to cover all needs.
Short Description of Institute
Hellenic Book Club spreads the ‘book of quality’ since 1977. The book of good energy as a tool and vehicle of civilization. To become everyone’s property. Up to now we have built 914 lending libraries ‘for you’ with 95% readability and 604.000 beneficiaries. The circle of programs and events of the Hellenic Book Club has the Book and the Person in the center and Civilization in its perimeter.
