Action Short Description

On the occasion of the Giving Tuesday movement, Merimna Paidiou Katerinis wanted to donate new psychoeducational material to the students of EEEK Katerinis. The goal of Merimna is to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. Merimna has been promoting the assistance of disabled people and their families for 5 consecutive decades. For this reason, Merimna wanted to help and share smiles to the students of EEEEK Katerinis through the offer of psychoeducational material.
The psychoeducational material was purchased from a store, expenses borne by the Association of Merimna Paidiou Katerinis, and was packed from the beneficiaries of Merimna with a lot of love The donation will get delivered by the beneficiaries of Merimna themselves in the last week of November when they visit the EEEEK Katerinis school and give out the gifts to the students.

Short Description of Institute

The "Association of Merimna Paidiou Katerinis" is a non-profit organization - legal person governed by private law - . which was founded in 1979. The aim of Merimna is to improve the quality of life and the social integration of people with mental retardation through the development of programs, organizations and workshops that respond to the needs of people with special needs and their families. The Association is active in the following areas:
1) Day Care Centers, with a total capacity of 91 people.
2) Supported Living Shelters - these are permanent residences for people with mental retardation aged 18 and over, operating on a 12-month basis around the clock with parallel support from specialized staff.
3) Awareness-raising actions aimed at informing and raising awareness of the local community on disability issues, such as drawing up educational programs approved by the Ministry of Education with the aim of informing and raising awareness among students on issues of diversity and cultivating empathy, organizing school visits to its facilities and organization of a basketball tournament where 25 typical and special schools participate under the title of "Unity" of the region of Pieria, as well as the realization of loving bazaars every Christmas and Easter, where the opportunity to inform the citizens about the activities of Merimna and the disposal of creations made by the beneficiaries of its workshops themselves, and the further cooperation with various educational institutions.
