Following with great interest the effort to bring new life to the village of Fourná in Evrytania(https://www.kathimerini.gr/society/563189197/to-mikro-chorio-tis-eyrytanias-poy-thelei-na-megalosei/), the Hellenic Book Club wishes to contribute by supporting the three local schools with books for their libraries.
Kindergarten: Enrichment of the lending library – cost €500
Primary School of Fourná: Creation of a lending library – cost €700
Junior High School with Lyceum classes: Enrichment of the lending library – cost €800.
Each library will include:
Selected quality books of high readability*, according to the pupils’ needs, number and age as well as those of the teachers.
Inspiring materials for the lending libraries. Decorative themes. The operational system of the lending library encourages the pupils’ self-motivation.
Bookshelves where needed.
*High readability is achieved through the innovative program of ELBI ‘Selection of books’ which is a unique system for the evaluation of books, from readers to readers. Books are categorized according to the age of the reader and the kind of book. There are also four quality criteria regarding the content, the art of writing, the edition and illustration. Working systematically on the selection of books, ELBI has an extensive list of selected books which results to pointing out the potential of quality books adapted to the needs of each institution. These needs are recorded in the program ‘Search for the creation of lending libraries in schools’ and thus the attitudes and specialties of each institution are traced, and the
material adapted to the needs of each targeted group is sent. Lists of books, already being in the institution, are compiled in relation to the age and the specialties of the targeted groups. Furthermore,there is a study of the material needed for the bookshelves to cover all needs.
Short Description of Institute
The Hellenic Book Club, since 1977, has been promoting quality books as a tool and vehicle of culture. It aims at cultivation achieved through the reading of carefully selected quality books, their connection to life, the socialization of the reader, and the enhancement of the love for reading. Its social and cultural contribution is expressed and reinforced through the creation of libraries with targeted content in schools and institutions across Greece and abroad, and is supported by continuous book-related events and activities.
